Lisbon Jewish Heritage and Discoveries Historical Private Tour 

The Lisbon Jewish Heritage and Portuguese Discoveries/Earthquake Historical Private Tour, will provide you an overview of the old Jewish Lisbon History, along with an historical visit to Lisbon downtown and the massive earthquake that destroyed Lisbon in 1755, followed by a visit to Belem, the flat area of Lisbon, famous during the discoveries period 500 years ago. 
Although the itinerary can be adjusted during the day, to make shorter or longer stops, this is the standard itinerary:

- Start the day at 9h00 AM heading to Lisbon Downtown for the morning period visit
- Pass by Restauradores Square, famous for the independence from the Spanish rule in 1640. 
Stop at one of the major squares of the city, Rossio, famous for the old Palacio Estaus and the Portuguese Inquisition Palace (Today, National Theathre D. Maria II).
- Arrive at the Jewish Memorial, remembering those who lost their lifes on the Lisbon Pogrom of 1506, the big Jewish Massacre of Lisbon.
- Learn from our experienced guide the history behind the establishement of the Jewish communities in Portugal, the escape from Spain and arrival of thousand of Jewish people in Portugal during the 14th and 15th hundreds, and the settlement of the Portuguese Inquisition during the 16th Century.
- Visit the Sao Domingos Church close to the Jewish Memorial.
- Pass by Praça da Figueira, the place of the old Lisbon Market with amazing views over the Sao Jorge Castle of Lisbon.
- Head to Praça do Comercio (Commerce Square), passing by the old merchant streets as Gold Street and Silver Street, stopping at the Santa Justa Elevator, and learning the damage of the earthquake on this part of the city, completely destroying one of the most important Jewish Quarters of the city.
- Visit to Alfama and the old Lisbon Cathedral, Lisbon oldest church founded in 1150
- Arrive at the Alfama Jewish Quarter (Rua da Judiaria), and check the impact of the big earthquake on this part of the city 

- Stop for Lunch (Free time - 1h)

- Continue your Private Tour with a visit to Belem, the famous area of Lisbon during the discoveries period, the golden age of Portugal and it's navigators, during the 15th and 16th centuries.  
- Stop at Belem Tower and the Discovery Monument and visit to the Church of Jeronimos Monastery, the most important monastery in Portugal.
- Overview looking to the Lisbon Bridge (25th April) and the Christ cross (Cristo Rei).
- Quick break for a local pastry at the most famous pastry shop in Portugal, Pasteis de Belem, founded in 1834.
- Much more smaller sights will be seen during the day, just not listed above
- End of the tour approx between 4PM and 5PM (Flexible for cruise ship passengers)

• We are a Private Tour Company (No other guests will join our private tour)
• This tour is prepared for Full-Day (around 7h/8h), although, if you have shorter time, we can fit it to your needs
• Most of our tours are done using minivans for your comfort (more leg room). For larger groups we have available larger buses/motor coaches.
